A year ago 30,000 people joined the demonstration against the urban growth on the streets of Palma with a slogan "No more urbanisations. Let us stop the destruction of Majorca ". This demonstration, the one that was celebrated in Menorca (6,000 people) and the one of Eivissa (11,000 people) constituted the greatest mobilisations of the recent history of the Balears.
One year after, the
GOB makes an absolutely positive valuation of the transcendence of that action: in these twelve months two laws and some norms have been approved that have contributed decisively to the change, like the moratorium of the Consell de Mallorca, the Directives of Territorial Arrangement and the Law of city-planning Measures of emergency. However, according to the ecological organisation, the present situation is still worrisome: the city-planning and tourist growth is exaggerated and the consumption of natural resources, unbearable. Therefore, the GOB, in a report presented yesterday, makes a call to the new government of the Balearic Islands so that it impels new measures that radically change the situation that cannot be maintained during many years. In particular, the report asks for the reform of the DOT to reduce the urban ground, to declassify new urbanisables like Es Canons, Alcanada, Can Porquer, Son Espanyol... and to reduce the number of tourists who visit us.
