Cinema: "El Mar" by Agustí Villaronga at the Berlinale
The film "El Mar", based on the book that has the same name, written by the author of Santanyi Blai Bonet, and directed by the Mallorcan Agustí Villaronga, will be presented next Tuesday, 15th of February, at the Berlinale. The film, shot in Catalan, competes with 20 other productions in the International Festival of Cinema of Berlin, that celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The story, performed by Roger Casamajor, Bruno Bergonzini and Ángela Molina, takes place in Mallorca, in time of the Civil War, where two boys witness the executions of members of the "Popular Front" by the Franco supporters.

The General Director for Culture of the Balearic Government, Pere Muñoz, and the writer and coscript writer of "EL MAR" , Biel Mesquida, presented last Friday a brief informative booklet about the film, in Catalan, German and English. 5000 copies have been printed to distribute at the Berlinale. On Sunday evening, in a celebration at the Berlin Town Hall, Agustí Villaronga received the Manfred Salzgeber Prize for his film El Mar. The prize for 30,000 Deutsch Marks plus the subtitling of the film in five languages, bears the name of one of the founders of the Panorama section of the Berlinale.
