The president of the
GOB, Joan Rita, has presented a document to the local Minister of Public Works, in which he expresses in
representation of the Balearic ecological group, their opposition to the project to widen the university road, alleging that it is almost
the same project that had been rejected previously. The main reasons for the opposition to the project are an exaggerated
consumption of territory, the negative impact on the scenery, on the architectural heritage of the area and on the structure of
property; and the elevated cost of the project that according to them, does not resolve the traffic problem to the UIB and only favours
private transport and contaminators. The ecological group proposes as a solution, the reformation and widening of the present road,
improvement and promotion of the use of collective transport, the creation of a bicycle lane and to carry out campaigns amongst the
students to promote these means of transport.
