1154 domains with the name MALLORCA

Last August, 1999, MallorcaWeb published a piece of news with the following headline: "500 domains on Internet with the word MALLORCA". Eight months later, this figure has multiplied nearly by three and now there are 1154 activated domains that include the word Mallorca. This confirms what we stated then: Mallorca is one of the "TOP" words on Internet. As we informed then, a lot of these domains that contain the word, Mallorca, end with .DE, corresponding to the territorial denomination of Germany, such as www.mallorca.de, www.mallorca-info.de, etc.

As for the other islands, the interest is not so marked, although the list of domains has followed the same rate of growth. And so the number of activated domains that include Menorca at present is 119, almost triple of the 41 that there were in August 1999. The word Eivissa, is not so popular, there are only 14 that contain it, although the figure has increased considerably in comparison to the 5 domains in August 1999. Ibiza is more popular and at present there are 587 domains with this word, almost triple the 208 there were in August. Finally the name of Formentera is present in 28 domains, tripling the 9 there were last year.

Meanwhile, the denomination Balears only appears in 22 domains, 7 more than in August 1999, while the domain Baleares appears in 60 domains, 31 more than at that time.

We must say that many of these domains are redirected to other webs. Some are even used simply as a way of attracting visits to other webs that have nothing to do with the Islands... Others have been acquired with a view to selling them on to the highest bidder.
