Toio Pons, member of the "Comitè de Solidaritat amb els Pobles d'Amèrica de Menorca", declared a hunger strike last May 13,
before the electric company GESA in the Mahon port, to express his firm rejection of the construction by ENDESA of the
hydroelectrical centre Ralco in the ancestral territory of the Mapuche people, situated on the shores of the Upper Bio-Bio river in
Chile.
The construction firm is ENDESA. Chile, branch of the Spanish company ENDESA. For years, the Mapuche people have wanted to
draw the attention of the international community to the aggressive expansion of ENDESA in Chile, that is putting the very survival of
the Mapuche people in danger.
Last January, a delegation of the Mapuche people visited the Balearics, and interviewed many politicians, who expressed their clear
support for the Mapuche cause. Amongst other actions, the Mallorcan Council approved an institutional declaration of support for
the Mapuche people and the rejection of the ENDESA operations.
Toio Pons Bonet wants to call the attention of all those who are sensitive to this problem, and especially the politicians, for them to
express their firm rejection of the aggression of ENDESA against the Mapuche people. Equally, Toio wants to make people and
entities aware so that they can reconsider their relationship with the banking firms, La Caixa, Caja Madrid, BBVA and BSCH,
important shareholders of ENDESA, that are supporting this political expansion of this company, with the already mentioned
consequences.
You can contact Toio personally and express your support and solidarity. You will find him on his mobile phone 626 80 39 29.
