XXXVII International Plastic Arts Contest in Pollença
Last Saturday, June 24, the "XXXVII Certamen Internacional d'Arts Plàstiques" was opened in the Church of the Convent of Saint Domingo in Pollença, with the presence of the Councillor for Culture of the Balearic Government, Damià Pons, and the lady Mayor of Pollença, Francesca Ramon. The selected works will be exhibited in the Church of the Convent until July 25 (Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5.30 to 8.30 p.m.; Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Mondays closed)

This year the jury, presided by Guillem Matheu, is comprised of Biel Amer, Teresa Blanch, Santiago Eraso Beloki, Miguel Fernández Cid and Susy Gómez, with Catalina A. Joy as secretary.

The exhibition will present 21 works by 15 artists, showing the plurality of languages (painting, sculpture, photography, multimedia, etc..) a reflection of the present day art: Patricia Dauder, Jon Mikel Euba, Equipo Límite, Alicia Martín, Miguel Galano, MP & MP Rosado Garcés, Juan Luís Moraza, Aina Perelló, José A. Hernández-Díez, Iñaki Larrimbe, Mar G. Ramedo and Carme Romero. 183 artists have participated in the Contest, 183 artists from Spain, Europe and South America. As from July 25 the jury will decide which works pass on to form part of the Museum of Pollença (the Town Hall has up to 2 million pesetas to acquire these works).

In the opening there will be singular percussion concert by the Ensemble de Percussió de Palma, made up of Armando Lorente, Susana Pacheco, Joan Campomar and Jaume Roig, with the collaboration of the dancer, Willie Sanz. They will interpret works by Pedro Guajardio, Niels Lelargue, De-Quing-Wen and Minouru Miki.
