The gardens of the
Casa Museu Llorenç Villalonga will hold next Friday,
July 14, at 10 p.m. the production "Enelamir" by the theatrical group,
Es Garrover.
The theatrical work shop of the Es Garrover association was formed in
1997 as a normalising cultural activity for people who have psychotic
manifestations. Since then they have produced three theatrical shows,
that have been represented in different parts of Mallorca and in
Barcelona, Malaga and Granada. They have created a new language, a new
culture in respect to mental health, demonstrating that the sick people
who have the adequate support, can be active agents in society,
producers of cultural and economic wealth.
"Enelamir", the group's third production, is an imaginary approach to
the Moslem culture of the oriental islands of Al-Andalus, from the XI to
the XIII centuries, that is the historical eras of the kingdoms of Taifa
to the conquest by Jaume I. It intends to be a tribute to a splendid
lyric, recovering a part of the forgotten, and often misconstrued,
Mediterranean history. To present the show, the group comments: "We,
who know so much about compulsory silence, discrimination and fear of
those who see their personal rights violated, wish to establish a bridge
of solidarity and recognition towards the immigrant who suffers a
similar situation to the one we have suffered for other reasons."
