One more year, the popular walk "from Güell to Lluc on foot"
During the wee small hours of August 6, once again will be held the walk
from Palma to
Lluc, popularly known as the "marxa des Güell a Lluc a
peu". This year they are celebrating the 27th edition and the organizers
of the event have placed at the point of the "Foro de Mallorca" on the
road between Palma and Inca, a monolith that indicates the way towards
Lluc via Lloseta. With this, there are now seven road marks on the
route.
According to Tolo 'Güell', the promotor of this initiative, at the Coll
de Sa Batalla, very near Lluc, the Verge de Lluc ribbons will be handed
over to all those participants who reach that point, a kind of
"certificate" that is handed to the "pilgrims" who complete the walk to
the Sanctuary.
At 9 a.m. in the Basilica, the Group Güell will be received by the
Prior, Gaspar Alemany, and the whole community of the Sanctuary, singing
the Salve and dedicating a prayer to the Virgin of Lluc. This will be
followed by a few words from Tolo Güell and the traditional flower
offering to the Virgin. The presence of Joan Fageda, the mayor of
Palma, is expected as he is one of the unconditional supporters every
year.
Besides the "marxa des Güell a Lluc a peu", two other walks to the
Sanctuary are held: the walk from the outer towns in the week of
September 10 with great significance; and the walk from Marratxí, very
numerous, on 17th of the same month.
