The president of the Balearic Government, Frances Antich, and the German
chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, met at the
Hotel-restaurant Vistamar in
Valldemossa.
After an informal lunch, Antich declared that Schröder had stated the
need to protect the environment and to improve the natural resources of
the islands.
The German chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, who is spending a nearly three
week holiday on Mallorca, was enthusiastic about the natural scenery,
the climate and the peace that can still be found in many parts of the
island, and asked for an effort to balance the young tourist demand,
that still seeks entertainment, with that of the family tourism that
seeks peace and quiet.
In the next few days, a meeting between King Juan Carlos and the German
chancellor is also planned which will probably be held once the King's
Cup, which is
being held in the Bay of Palma, is over.
