Welcome! A century of tourism in the Balearics

The exhibition Welcome! A century of tourism in the Balearics takes a trip round the history of tourism in the Balearics, from the first visitors at the beginning of the century, until the present-day tourism. The exhibit, with the help of numerous settings, introduces the visitor into a trip in time via which he/she can enter into a cinema of the beginning of the century, a discotheque of the 60s or a modern plane finger, amongst others.

The exhibition, that can be visited from September 20 to November 26, 20000, in the Fundación "la Caixa" in Palma, is planned from three points of view: The pretourist society at the beginning of the XX century and the posterior economic and social evolution brought about by tourism as from the 60s, the tourist boom and its relationship with aviation, and finally the 80-90s with the new airport and the appearance of now tourist modes and new concepts such as the deseasoning, the sustainable development and 'sponging' or quality.

The commissioner of the exhibition, organised by the Foundation La Caixa is Jaume Martorell.
