On Saturday October 14 at 7.30 p.m. there will be a
choir concert at the Palma Cathedral with
over 200 voices assembled from all over Mallorca, conducted by Conway Jones. They will sing Faure's Requiem and
Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, in aid of the Friends of the Hospices.
This is an international project that was started in England in 1989 under the sponsorship of British Telecom in London. This
year the event is being enthusiastically promoted in over 40 countries worldwide. Concerts will be held in many hundreds of
towns and villages, some 240 in the UK with three in Spain, Palma being for the first time. There will be continuous chain of
song crossing from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, India, Africa, Europa, USA and Canada as all concerts will start
at the same local time.
Admission will be free and 2000 souvenir programmes will be distributed to the audience. However there will be opportunities
for people to make donations to Friends of the Hospice as they leave the Cathedral.
