On December 31 in 1229, the troops of King James I entered the city of
Palma via the gate of Bab Al-Kofol, called then on Santa Margalida, at the entrance of what today is the Carrer de Sant
Miquel. Since then, to commemorate this important event in the history of Mallorca, the last few days of the year the "Festa de
l'Estendard" (Fiesta of the Standard) is held, with various institutional and popular events.
