Intel Corporation unveiled on Wednesdey a new processor and chipset for
value PCs, advancing the fundamental hardware building blocks of Intel-based value PC designs.
The new Celeron processor 800 MHz is the first Intel desktop value PC processor to include a 100 MHz system bus, a
technology that offers a wider communications path between the processor and the rest of the system, resulting in faster overall
system performance.
"Intel is updating the hardware ingredients of value PCs to bring more performance and capabilities to consumers in 2001," said
Jeff McCrea, director, Intel Desktop Platform Marketing. "These new technologies are expected to proliferate quickly,
enabling a wide variety of system designs for the new year."
The first systems based upon this new processor are expected at this week's
Consumer Electronics
in Las Vegas.
