The
Programa d'Ensenyament de la Llengua Catalana (PELC) is an online computer application to learn Catalan on Internet. It
has been created by the General Direction for Linguistic Policy of the Balearic Government, via an agreement with the
Consortium for the Promotion of the Catalan Language and Projection Abroad with the Calculation Service of the Balearic
University.
To access the service, you must register, as the programme keeps a register of details of each user to be able to make a self
evaluation control of the activities carried out. The web offers theory and a wide collection of practical exercises that can be
corrected at once. At present, only the section "Basic Level - Grammar" is available and this covers spelling, morphology, syntax
and lexicon. Progressively the other levels and topics will be added, such as the section "Historical framework" under construction
at present, which will include sections for history and society.
The official presentation of the Programme will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 11 a.m. at the Department for Education
and Culture. Damià Pons, the Councillor for Education and Culture, Joan Melià, the general director for linguistic policy, and
Bartomeu Serra, the director for the Service of Calculation and Computers of the UIB, will participate.
