The Balearic Government will defend the Law of Insular Councils before the Tribunal Constitutional
The Govern de les Illes Balears, in the Cabinet Meeting of Friday, January 12, 2001, approved the proposal to counterappeal before the Tribunal Constitutional against the appeal against the Law of Insular Councils. The agreement is a necessary step for the Government to make before presenting the allegations in defence of the constitutionality of the contested Law. The limit for presenting allegations is January 18, 2001.

On December 21 the Tribunal Constitutional admitted the appeal of unconstitutionality against the Law of Insular Councils presented by the Central Government, and suspended the application of the eleven articles contested. The National Cabinet agreed unanimously on December 26 that the Law of Insular Councils approved by the Balearic Parliament vulnerated the Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy.
