The new headquarters for the
General
Direction of Architecture and Housing of the Government, calle de la
Palma 4, will be the scene of the itinerant exhibition, "Ruta europea del
Modernisme", within the European initiative promoted by the Barcelona Town
Council "
European Route of Art
Nouveau", which has been joined by the Department of Public Works of
the Balearic Government. The photographic exhibition that can be
visited until March 12, presents a vision of modernist architecture in
different European cities.
Modernism reached the Balearics at the beginning of the XX century
led by Catalan architects and was introduced quickly into cities such as
Palma, Soller or Mahon, sponsored by industrialists and merchants.
Coinciding with the exhibition the General Direction of Architecture
and Housing of the Balearic Government has present two publications on
Modernism in the Balearics. These are "Guia d'arquitectura
modernista a les Illes Balears", edited in Catalan, Spanish and English
and the book "El Modernisme a les Illes Balears".
Visiting hours: from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 5 till 8 p.m.
