Sant Jordi will celebrate on May 19 and 20 the first "Fira del Caragol",
with a view to promoting and informing about snails as an alternative for
the agricultural recovery of abandoned farms in Sant Jordi (within the
municipality of Palma).
On Saturday, May 19, at 9pm at Ca ses Monges there will be a conference
about Heliciculture by José A. Marcelo, expert for the firm
El
Cargol and collaborator with the
Ministerio
de Agricultura and the
Departament
d'Agricultura, Ramaderia i Pesca of the Generalitat in Catalunya.
On Sunday, May 20, the fair will take place, opening at 10 am with a
street parade with Xeremiers, and a wide range of ludic, gastronomic and
cultural activities connected with snails: snail races and other children's
activities with the snail as the star, tastings and sale of snails, presentation
of different ways to cook snails...
The Fair will also include an artisan exhibition, and sale of commercial
products from Sant Jordi, sale of sausages, autochthonous animals and birds....
and a grand finale with a popular dance at 8 p.m. with the children's school
Son Espanyolet, Balladors de Lluc, Aires des Pla de Marratxí and
Aires Santjordiers.
