According to the GOB, this season only 2 pairs of the Black Kite (Milvus
milvus)have managed to reproduce successfully, breeding a total
of 5 chicks. Last year only 3 couples bred successfully a total of 8 chicks.
The situation this year only confirms the progressive decrease in the
species on Mallorca. According to the ecological association, the
extinction of the black kite as a breeder on Mallorca could take place
in ten years unless the tendency can be reversed.
Poison is the fundamental cause of the death of the Black Kite, both
in the Balearics and the Iberian Peninsular.
