Santa Margalida: everything ready for the Beata procession
Santa Margalida celebrates these days the fiestas in honour of Santa Catalina Tomàs, the Beata. The programme includes a wide range of interesting proposals, including children's and sporting activities, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, dances, theatre...

The events that year after year generate expectation and have the greatest participation from neighbours and visitors who go to Santa Margalida are the traditional races "Corregudes al Cós" and the religious folklore procession with the "Beata", held every first Sunday in September and that is known as the most typical in Mallorca. The Beata procession has been held in Santa Margalida since 1792, the date when the nun Catalina Tomàs (Valldemossa 1531 - Palma 1574) was beatified by Pope Pious VI.

The procession leaves at 9 p.m. on Sunday September 2, presided by la Beata who this year will be represented by Margalida Bassa Jaume. She will be accompanied by the authorities, several groups of xeremiers, a multitude of peasants who will carry the jugs that later will be thrown by the demons on the ground before the Saint, music bands, floats and several standards remembering the Beata's life. Myrtle, torches and the singing of the traditional Sor Tomasseta chants will bring the traditional touch to the festivity. The procession will end with the noise of the crashing jars in the Church Square.
