The
Mallorcan Council
organizes the V Mallorca Day to commemorate the 725th anniversary of the
swearing by King Jaume II of the "Franqueses i privilegis del regne de
Mallorca", (freedoms and privileges of the kingdom of Mallorca)
The programme started last Friday, August 31, at the Cala Gamba nautical
club, with beginning of the sailing competition "V Trofeu Diada de Mallorca
de Vela Llatina", and will last until September 29, with a many events
that will take place 23 towns of the Island: Palma, Porreres, Búger,
Santa Eugènia, Santuari de Lluc (Escorca), Campos, Artà,
Cura (Algaida), Sóller, Inca, Selva, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Costitx,
Santa Margalida, Ariany, Colònia de Sant Jordi (Ses Salines), Alcúdia,
Llubí, Felanitx, Campos, Pollença and Maria de la Salut.
The main novelties of the Mallorcan Day programme, known as the "Diada
2001", are the presentation of the game "Joc de Ministrils" and the giants
King Jaume II of Mallorca nd Queen Esclarmunda.
During the institutional ceremony of the "Diada", the giving of medals
"Honor i Gratitud de l'Illa de Mallorca" will take place. The president
of the Mallorcan Council, Maria Antònia Munar, will give the distinctions,
this year, to Josep Amengual Domingo, Anthony Bonner, Antònia Buades
Vallespir and Joan Veny i Clar.
