The ancient celebration of the "Festa des Jai", recovered in 1977
by the Obra Cultural Balear from Búger, will be held another year
on the first Sunday of May.
The programme of the "Festa i Fira des Jai 2002" from
Búger
began last weekend with an organ concert at the church, and will continue
on Friday 3, at 7 p.m., with a street parade and traditional dances, and
with the walk to the
Fundació
ACA, where the reading of the Proclamation of the fiestas
will
be held. The reader of the proclamation will be the member of the Majorcan
member of parliament Cecili Buele, followed by a recital for voice and
piano by Jeroni Alenyar. A rock concert at the square opposite the church,
as from 11 p.m., will close the first day of fiestas.
The activities will continue on Saturday morning with the Fair, that
will present all kind of local handmade products and renovated furniture,
farming products and tools, as well as local animals. After the fair there
will be a popular dance with music by Cofre Antic, Tacàritx and
Al Mayurqa.
On Sunday, May 5, there will be the traditional "Festa des Jai" with
a popular meal at the Binisettí wood. This festivity remembers the
arrival of the ancient grandparents that this day visited the
Fira
de Sineu and, once back, full of sweets and other presents, they were
received by the children of the village. At noon there will be popular
races with music and after dinner folk dancing. This year "Es Jai" will
be Llorenç Socies representing the oldest man of the village and
he will arrive at 5.30 p.m.
