Another year, coinciding with the celebration of Sant Joan's Day, next
Monday, June 24, Felanitx will celebrate an old tradition that is kept
alive in this Mallorcan town. This is the dance by Sant Joan Pelós,
starring a man that represents Saint John Baptist, who from very ancient
times is used to taking a walk around the streets of Felanitx, on this
important day of the festive calendar. Pollença also has a Sant
Joan Pelós, but this other one comes out on the day of
Corpus
Christi.
This year the Felanitx Town Council has published a poster with a piece
of text from the book "Die Balearen" by Ludwig Salvatore of Austria that
mentions the Saint and his dance. The Town Council has also prepared some
informative pamphlets in Catalan, Spanish, English and German that describe
this singular character.
