Once again, next Saturday, August 24,
Alcúdia
will celebrate an old tradition recovered at the end of the 70's by the
Obra Cultural Balear. This is the "Festa de les llanternes" (festivity
of the lanterns) that will be held on the day of Sant Bartomeu, organised
now by the folk group Sarau Alcudienc and sponsored by the Department of
Culture of the
Alcúdia Town Council.
The programme of this celebration will begin at 10.30 p.m. with a lantern
workshop by Antoni Bibiloni at the School Porta des Moll. The lanterns are
made with fruits such as melons and watermelons.
At 9.15 p.m., all the people who will participate in the street parade
will meet outside the Town Hall and then the " Cercavila Popular" will
be held along the centre of the City, singing popular Mallorcan songs.
