The rockets and devils, the raising of the flag and the traditional
reading of the proclamation will open the programme of the "Festes de Sant
Roc" in Porreres, on Friday, August 9. As in other years, the fiestas will
include street parades, several sports events, exhibitions, concerts, dances
and theatre, amongst other entertainment.
Amongst the novelties, worth stressing is the opening of the new Museu
d'Art Contemporani in Porreres, with the exhibition "Joan Miró Litògraf",
from the Collection of the "la Caixa" Foundation, that will show an unedited
part of the artistic personality of Joan Miró in the field of graphic
arts. The opening will take place on Saturday, August 10, at 7 p.m.
The same Saturday, as from 9 p.m., the "Torrada Popular" will be held,
with music by
Música Nostra,
Espais Verds, Orquestra Oasis, Orquestra Rodamons, Freemen and the show
by
Madó Pereta. At
sunrise, the Filharmònica Porrerenca will play the song "Matinada
Porrerenca" and hot chocolate and ensaimadas will be served to the survivors
of the Grand Porreres Night. This year the programme will continue until
Friday, August 16, the day of Sant Roc, when the religious ceremonies will
take place.
