Melon Fiesta and Fair in Vilafranca

As from last Friday, Vilafranca is celebrating several festive events included in the programme of the "Festa i Fira del Meló 2002".

Some of the proposals for the following days are the theatre show "BRAMS o la kumèdia dels herrors" by Toni Albà, which will open the Autumn season of the Teatre de Vilafranca on Friday 30 at 9.30 p.m., and the "II Festival de Música i Dansa de l'Antiga Corona d'Aragó", that will be held in the Plaça Major during the weekend. This will begin on Friday 30 at 10.30 p.m. with performances by the groups Ximbomba Atòmica (Mallorca) and El Pont d'Arcalís (Catalunya), and will continue on Saturday night, the day of the "Festa del Meló", with Vilafranca Balla i Bota (Mallorca), Sa Colla de Vila (Eivissa) and the invited group Aurtzaka-Jakintza (Ordizia, Basc Country). The night of the "Festa del Meló" will also include the "Festa de les Llanternes", the "Firó Nocturn" and a popular dance with the bands Orquestra Zarza, Fet a mà, Géminis and Tomeu Penya.

On Sunday, September 1, as from 9:00 h, the "Fira del Meló" will open offering a wide exhibition of local handicraft, animals, machinery, ecological agriculture... In the morning there will be a competition of melons, equestrian demonstrations and an auction of Mallorcan black pigs. In the afternoon, a tractor driving competition, human castles and a shepherd's contest.
