The Capella de la Misericòrdia in Palma will hold until December
13 the exhibition "Feim el Museu de la Mar" that presents the Proposal
for the Directive Plan for the Museu de la Mar, project created by the
Department of Culture of the
Consell
de Mallorca with a view to creating a museum dedicated to the preservation,
information and study of marine culture of the island and its heritage.
According to the Directive Plan, the Museu de la Mar, will not be a
sole museum, but rather a group of interrelated centres. The main centre
would be in Palma in a building still to be decided. The Oratorio de Santa
Catalina in Soller, now under reconstruction, the Torre Major in Alcúdia,
will also form part of the future Museu de la Mar. Finally the Plan also
contemplates premises in Portocolom, ses Salines and Calvià as future
situations for the Museum.
The exhibition is divided in four areas: the first presents the former
Museo Marítimo de Baleares, that was open from 1951 to 1974; the
second carries out a trip through the maritime heritage: documents, vessels,
etc.; the third presents the workings of the future Museu de la Mar; and
the fourth presents an audiovisual production.
Visiting times:
- From Monday to Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 to 8
