Yesterday, the Balearic Councillor of Environment, Margalida Rosselló,
presented the technical proposal for protection of the Serra de Tramuntana,
that aims at a general planning of the natural, scenic and ethnological
resources of the future Natural Park of the Serra de Tramuntana in the
municipalities of Alaró, Alcúdia, Andratx, Banyalbufar, Binissalem,
Bunyola, Calvià, Campanet, Deià, Escorca, Esporles, Estellencs,
Fornalutx, Lloseta, Mancor de la Vall, Palma, Pollença, Puigpunyent,
Sa Pobla, Santa Maria, Selva, Sóller and Valldemossa.
With a view of entering in a greater public participation about the
protection of the most important natural area of the Balearic archipelago,
the Councillor of Environment has published the web
www.serradetramuntana.org
with full information on the proposal.
The creation of the Natural Park of the Serra de Tramuntana is one of
the points of the programme of the so-called
Progress
Pact, the document signed by the nationalist and left parties of the
Islands, after the elections on June 13, 1999, to permit the parliamentary
majority that supported the Balearic Government and the Councils of Mallorca,
Menorca and Eivissa. The declaration of the Serra de Tramuntana as
a Natural Park has always generated a strong controversy amongst those
for and against, such as in the Debate/poll with the question "Do you think
that the Serra de Tramuntana should be a Natural Park?" organised by MallorcaWeb
in February 2000 as part of the special
Serra
de Tramuntana: Parc Natural?
