The
Fundación Bartolomé
March is carrying out a complete reconstruction of their head office
in the Palau March in Palma with a view to making it an important cultural
centre. Until now the building housed the important library of Bartolomé
March Servera, art patron and promoter of the foundation that bears his
name, who died in 1998 and youngest son of the banker,
Juan
March Ordinas.
Once the project is finished, the building will have a museum that will
hold temporary exhibitions and will show permanently the collection of
sculptures that Bartolomé March had in the Torre Cega in Cala Rajada,
together with the popular Neapolitan Nativity Scene of the XVIII century
that traditionally could be visited at Christmas. It will also have an
Auditorium where there will be a programme of concerts for chamber music
and contemporary music. Meanwhile, the Library, open to the public since
1970 and with over 2,000 manuscripts and 60,000 books and other publications,
will also extend its available space.
The project has a budget of over two million euros and it is due to
be finished by next spring. Coinciding with this important refurbishment,
the Bartolomé March Foundation has created its page on Internet
(
www.fundbmarch.es) where information
is given on the new cultural services to be offered in the Palau March.
