The
Challenge Illes Balears-XII
Volta a Mallorca will once more start the European professional cycling
calendar. The Mallorcan race will be held between February 2 and 6 and
will have the participation of the best cyclists in the world, a total
of over 200 racers and 20 teams.
The competition will start on Sunday, February 2 with the Trofeo Palma
de Mallorca, on an urban circuit on the Passeig Marítim in Palma.
The second day, Monday 3, will start in Cala Bona and passing through the
Coll d'Honor and the Coll den Morell will end in Cala Rajada. On Tuesday
4, the most important stage will leave from and arrive at Port d'Alcudia,
passing via the Coll de Femenia, Puig Major, Coll de Sóller and
Coll de Sa Batalla. On Wednesday 5, the race will move on from Manacor
to Portocristo, passing through Son Maciŕ. The last stage, on Thursday
6, will start in Magaluf and end in Palmanova, passing via five mountain
passes: Coll de sa Gramola, Coll de Claret, Coll de Sóller,
Valldemossa and Galilea.
This year eight Mallorcan cyclists will participate in the Challenge:
Joan Llaneras, Miquel Alzamora, Francisco Martí and David Muntaner,
all of them from the Spanish Cycling Team on Track; and Toni Tauler, Toni
Colom, Joan Horrach and Vicente Reynčs, racers who will compete
in the trial with different professional teams.
