The programme for the fiestas of "Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastià
2003" in Pollença will start on Sunday 12, at 7 p.m., with an exhibition
of "Ball de Pagès" at the Club Pollença, by the Escola de
Ball of Pollença.
But The most popular events will be held next week: Thursday 16 the
popular dance known as "la Revetla"; Friday 17, Sant Antoni; and on Monday
20, Sant Sebastià.
The events programmed for Thursday 16 start at 6 p.m. with the "Bonfire
Contest" and the performance by the "Xeremiers" (bagpipes, drum and pipe),
followed by the celebration of the street parade with the "Pollença
Cornet and Drum Band". At 8 p.m. the bonfires will be lit and the prizes
will be given.
On Friday 17, at 10 a.m. there will be the "Traditional Float Parade"
and "Beneïdes - Animal blessing", with a present for all the participants.
At 11.30 a.m., from Almoina, the traditional climb to fetch the "Pi" (pine
tree) de Ternelles, accompanied by the Xeremiers. In the Ternelles property
there will be a traditional lunch of "pa amb oli, arrengades i vi" (bread,
oil, herrings and wine) and at 2 p.m. after the meal the neighbours will
carry the popular "pi" to the square Plaça Vella. There it will
be stood up and all the young men of the town will try to climb the 20
metres of the usual height of the pole. On the same Friday at 8 p.m. there
will be holy mass and offering to Sant Antoni
On Saint Sebastian's day, Monday 20, there will be more festivities.
At 2 p.m. the bells will ring and at 7.30 p.m. there will be a procession
with the statue of Saint Sebastian and the traditional "Cavellets" and
the "Standard", followed by the mass with the Ball de l'Oferta". Finally
the bonfires will be lit in the Plaça Major and there will be the
"Ball de les Taules" by the "Cavallets".
