Last Friday in the Port of Palma the new maritime line between Palma
and the French town Sète, run by the
Medmar
Group, was opened. In the opening ceremony held in the assembly room
of the boat that carries out the trip, the president of the Balearic Government,
Francesc Antich, and the president of the Mallorcan Council, Maria Antònia
Munar attended, together with other authorities plus the president of Medmar,
Nicola D'Abundo. The ferry, called Giulia D'Abundo, like the owner's daughter,
can transport 1,300 passengers and 300 vehicles, and will make the trip
between Palma and Sète and viceversa in 14 hours, three days a week.
The new maritime line covers the vacuum left by BalearExpress, that
started
in May 2000 and ended very soon after.
