The ancient celebration of the "Festa des Jai", recovered in 1977
by the Obra Cultural Balear from Búger, will be held another year
on the first Sunday of May.
Búger has been celebrating since last Friday the "Festa i Fira
des Jai 2003". Conferences, dances, presentations, exhibitions and a rock
night for next Friday, May 2, are part of the programme.
The official opening of the fair will take place on Saturday 3 at 10.30
p.m. and will present all kind of local handmade products and renovated
furniture, farming products and tools, as well as local animals. After
the fair there will be a popular dance with music by
Tacàritx
and Al Mayurqa.
On Sunday, May 4, there will be the traditional "Festa des Jai" with
a popular meal at the Binisettí wood. This festivity remembers the
arrival of the ancient grandparents that this day visited the
Fira
de Sineu and, once back, full of sweets and other presents, they were
received by the children of the village. At noon there will be popular
races with music and after dinner folk dancing. This year "Es Jai" (representing
the oldest man of the village) will arrive at 5.00 p.m.
