On April 25, the play
"Escenes
d'una execució" by Howard Barker will reach Mallorca, in the
version by
Quim Monzó and directed
by Ramon Simó. A super production by the
Teatre
Nacional de Catalunya that has been programmed as part of the Festival
Escenaris del Món and can be seen in the
Auditòrium
de Palma until April 27.
The story is based in Venice of the XVII century. The protagonist, Galàctia,
a well known artist, carries out a painting of the Battle of Lepanto, commissioned
by the Dux Urgentino, but contrary to the requirements of the Venetian
politicians, it will reflect all the brutality and obscenity of the battle.
This is a radical and poetic production that explains to us the function
of art in society, the responsibility of the artists and how ruling powers
utilise art.
