Following the summer festive calendar, after the fiestas for
Sant
Joan, the fiestas for Sant Pere are held, around June 29. And so, this
weekend there will be festivities in Alaró, Andratx, Búger,
Colònia de Sant Pere, Escorca, Esporles, Port d'Alcúdia,
Port de Sóller...
The fiestas in Alaró, known as the fiestas of Los Damunt as they
are organised by the neighbours of this ancient district of Alaró,
will start on Thursday at 8.30 p.m. with a street parade by
gegants,
demonis
infantils and local drummers, and with a "correfoc" firework run. The
programme of events, that includes the traditional cooking fair on Saturday
28 and dances all week end, will last until Sunday 29 and end with a grand
"correfoc" by the
Dimonis
d'Alaró.
The main dish of the fiestas in Andratx is the free concert by
Mojinos
Escozíos, that will take place on Friday 27 at 11 p.m. behind
the Town Hall. But also important is the Review that will be held on Sunday
night, June 29, with the television show man,
Jordi
LP as the star artist with a grand firework display afterwards.
The fiestas in Búger include a dance on Saturday evening, June
28 and on Monday 30. The first with the orchestras Los Javaloyas, Zarza
and Alabama, and the second with the group
Arpellots
Havaneres Band. On Sunday there will be theatre with Picadís.
The municipality of Escorca celebrates its fiestas on Saturday in the
old chapel of Sant Pere, with a mass at 7.30 p.m. followed by a dinner
organised by the Town Council.
As for Esporles, the most awaited events are the rock night with Honey,
Amb
una mica de sort, Syphosis and Ke Reggae Ska for Saturday 28 and the
"correfoc" by
Iguana
Teatre, that will take place on Sunday 29 at 10 p.m. followed by a
concert by the group Raibel.
In the coastal resorts of Colònia de Sant Pere, Port d'Alcúdia
and Port de Sollér, the sea is an important element of the fiestas.
In the Colònia de Sant Pere, for example, amongst many other activities
this Friday there will be a Havanna music night, with music, rum toddy,
and grilled sardines on the beach, and on Sunday 29, after the mass at
8 p.m. there will be the traditional sea procession.
In Alcúdia, the patron fiesta of the fishermen will also have
a striking maritime character. So on Saturday night there will be grilled
sardines and Havanna songs with the groups Sotavent and Marejol, and on
Sunday, Sant Pere, there will be a procession on land and sea. A long list
of events that will link with the fiestas of La Victoria complete the programme.
In Sóller, the Sant Pere procession will take place on
Saturday evening, instead of the day of Sant Pere, just before the TV live
coverage of the football final of the Copa del Rey between Real Mallorca
and Recreativo de Huelva, via a giant screen installed in the fiestas precinct.
