Choir concert in the Torrent de Pareis

Choir concert in the Torrent de Pareis

One of the most singular musical events of the Mallorcan summer.

On Sunday, July 3, as from 5.30 p.m. there will be the annual Concert del Torrent de Pareis (Escorca), one of the most singular musical events of the Mallorcan summer. In an exceptional setting, those attending will be able to listen this year to the exceptional voices of Choir of the Balearic University, the Choir of the Jeunesses Musicales of Palma, accompanied by the Mallorcan couple Tomeu Estaràs (flute) and Genia Tobin (voice) and the jazz trio formed by Miquel Brunet (piano), Salvador Font (drums) and Daniel Lagarde (bass).

The open-air concerts at the Torrent de Pareis started in 1964 through the initiative of the artist Josep Coll Bardolet (Campdevànol, 1912), living in Valldemossa since 1940. First the performances were almost intimate. Later, the Sa Nostra took over the organisation of the concert, and year after year, the event has gone from strength to strength. At present the concert gathers together thousands of people, attracted by the marvellous combination of the beauty of the scenery and harmony of the music.

You can reach the Torrent de Pareis by car following the road from Escorca to sa Calobra. You can also reach the beach by boat from the Port de Sóller. Another option for the most adventurers is to go walking, following the course of the Torrent de Pareis, excursion that must be done early in the morning and preferably guided by somebody who knows the route. On the web page Excursionisme per Mallorca by Joan Andreu Juan there is information about the excursion in Catalan. David Gibson, on another web page, describes the walk in English.
