Eladi Homs and Maria Ferret initiated the Mallorcan scout movement in 1956.
The Mallorcan scouting organisation Moviment Escolta i Guiatge de Mallorca (MEGM) is commemorating its 50th anniversary with the exhibition "50 anys d'escoltisme a Mallorca" in the chapel of the Misericòrdia Cultural Centre in Palma. The exhibition, that can be visited until January 27, reviews the history of the scout movement in Mallorca.
The Scout Movement was founded as a youth organization in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell in England. Following its foundation in the UK, the Scouting movement started to spread around the globe and was brought to Mallorca in 1956 by Eladi Homs and Maria Ferret. Over these fifty years of scouting in Mallorca some 40,000 children and youngsters have taken part in the different groups that form the Mallorcan scouting organisation MEGM.
