Works by John Martin, Tamara Arroyo, Isaac Montoya...
The noble floor of the Casal Solleric is housing the exhibition "John Martin, 1789-1854. The visible darkness. Stamps and drawing from the Campbell collection". The show groups 210 works by British artist John Martin that belong to the Michael J. Campbell collection. Most of the exhibited works are mezzotint engravings, although there are also etchings, lithographies, watercolours and sketch drawings. Due to the singularity and magnificence of his compositions, with multitude of figures set in great architectonic scenes, and thanks to his apocalyptic imagination, John Martin was regarded as one of the most important artists of his time and one of the most prominent figures of Romanticism and the sublime aesthetics.
More over, in the mezzanine and ground floors of the cultural centre the selected works of the "Premi Ciutat de Palma Antoni Gelabert d'Arts Plàstiques" contest can be seen. The awarded work of this contest, organised by the Palma Town Council within the Sant Sebastià Festivities, is the video creation "Music box" by Tamara Arroyo (Madrid, 1972).
Finally, the Espai Quatre, in the basement of the cultural centre, is housing the exhibition "Dangerous emissions" by Isaac Montoya (Burgos, 1963). The exhibition includes some large format pictures based on real facts and two light boxes with dual meanings.
The three exhibitions can be visited until March 26
