Outer Quay destroyed in Port d'Andratx

Built in 1902 it could not resist the storm.

The strong winds that the Balearic Islands have been suffering over the weekend have affected Puerto de Andratx in particular. On Saturday afternoon the outer quay, built of stone, which is the site of the Port Lighthouse, could not resist the strength of the waves and partially collapsed as can be seen in the photograph and video that accompany this item of news. At first the total destruction of the quay was feared and that large waves would enter the port, but finally the strength of the storm started to calm down and the quay resisted.

Puerto de Andratx is the most western port on the island and the exterior quay was opened in 1902 which meant that the previous quay, built at the end of the XVIII century, became the interior quay. Recently a walkway had been incorporated on top of the outer quay, and this has been completely destroyed. It is possible that the walkway was one of the causes of the destruction of the quay.
