Festivities of Mount Carmel: maritime processions and celebrations

On Friday, July 16, the festivities of la Verge del Carme (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) are held with maritime processions and other cultural and religious events in a large number of Mallorcan coastal villages.
In the ports of Pollença, Andratx, Porto Cristo, Portocolom, Cala Rajada... the fiestas last a few days with numerous activities but the central event is the traditional maritime procession in which a large group of adorned fishing and pleasure boats participate, led by the main boat that bears the statue of the Virgin. The processions are held in the early evening, after the mass in honour of their Patroness. In Pollença the procession will be held on Sunday 18.
