Last January 3, the
Consell de Mallorca presented the "Nautical Vocabulary", elaborated together with Maria
Magdalena Ramon and the area for Linguistic Normalisation of the Council of Youth and Culture. The publication groups together
2,502 terms that cover different topics such as naval construction, the weather, geographic formations, fishing tactics and different
kinds of vessels. 750 copies have been published that will be shared around the sailing schools and the libraries of the Mallorcan
Council. They will also be supplied to associations that request them and will be on sale in some book shops.
At the same time, the Council for Economic and Occupational Promotion of the Mallorcan Council has just created the "Workshop
school for ship builders" directed by Joan Manuel Pons and Jaume Cifre. The first course, lasting 24 months, will start this month of
January with 10 pupils with ages between 16 and 24. The youngsters will participate in the restoration of the boat "La Balear" and in
the construction of a 'llaut' (traditional Mallorcan boat) of 30-32 palms (6m). The aim of the programme is to facilitate the participants
into a working life via good training.
