The
Parlamient of the Balearic Islands approved on Tuesday the modification of the Law of Natural Areas (LEN) to give protection to
the areas of Alcanada and cap Pinar (Alcúdia) and es Canons de Artà that have now been designated as natural areas of special
interest (ANEI), and the area known as s'Almudaina de Andratx that becomes a rural area of scenic interest (ARIP).
The modifications of the LEN were approved unanimously, except referring to Alcanada. The PP opposed since it considers it to be
absurd that the extension of the ANEI of Alcanada should prejudice the golf course that is being built in this area with all its
permissions.
At the same time, and unanimously, the Parliament passed a proposition bill, presented by Miquel Nadal of Unió Mallorquina (UM),
in which the central Government will be asked for the Balearic Islands to take part in the administration of the airports. The proposal
collects the ideas expressed by the president of the
Chamber of Commerce, Miquel Lladó, and other businessmen of the islands
who are worried about the intention of the central Government to privatise the administration of the airports.
