World Theatre Day was created in 1961 by the
International Theatre Institute (ITI). It is celebrated annually on the 27th
March by ITI Centres and the international theatre community. Various national and international theatre events are organized to
mark this occasion. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day International Message
traditionally written by a theatre personality of world stature.
The World Theatre Day International Message for the year 2000 has been written by
Michel Tremblay, internationally acclaimed
playwright, (Quebec, Canada). The International Message is translated into more than 20 languages and the
Catalan version, sent by
the
Federació Balear de Teatre Amateur, can be found on
teatre.net
For the same March 27, the Service of Cultural Activities of the UIB has organised a
day dedicated to the theatre and throughout the
day, in the university campus, there will be performances, round tables and happenings.
