Capdepera celebrates this year the 700th anniversary of the Capdepera Castle, commemorating a historic event for
Mallorca: "The Ordinations of Jaume II" that took place in 1300. As from the "Ordinations of Jaume II" 14 towns were formed on
Mallorca, some new, some existing, one of which was in the area of Artà, next to the "torre den Miquel Nunís", which eventually
was surrounded by the walled circuit that closed the whole town: Capdepera.
Therefore, Capdepera wishes to share this celebration with the whole island of Mallorca, with three objectives:
- to create an awareness of identity round an integrating date: the year 1300,
- to initiate a tradition for this date,
- and to claim that we are people with over 700 years of history.
The programme of activities for the month of May includes a wide range of festive, educational and cultural events, that can be
consulted on the special "
700 anys del Castell de Capdepera".
