The
Balearic Government has decided, on Friday, in the usual Friday
Cabinet meeting, to postpone the approval of the Draft Bill for the
creation of the
Ecoturist Tax, popularly known as the ecotax. The
councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Garcias, has stated in the press
conference after the Cabinet Meeting, that this postponement is due to a
letter to the Government from the Hotel Businesses
Federation of
Mallorca (FEMH), in which the organisation asked for a postponement in
the approval of the ecotax, as next week they will hold a meeting during
which the hoteliers will make definite proposals to try to reach a
consensus on the contents of the new law. According to the councillor
of the Presidency, the Government considers is positive that the FEMH is
prepared to discuss the problem and will not approve the Ecotax until it
hears the hoteliers' proposals.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approve the
Law for Territorial Planning of the
Balearics (LOT), which is available on internet in Word format, and
which modifies the
Law 8/1987, for Balearic Territorial Planning and
that fixes the adequate frame in connection to territorial planning, for
the transfers to the insular councils. The approval of the Territorial
Planning Directives did not take place until 1999, with the
Law 6/1999,
for the Directives of Balearic Territorial Planning and taxation
measures. The approval of the LOT has gone before that of the Law of
Land for the Balearics, since this is in progress, with a view to making
viable transfers of the responsibilities for territorial planning to the
insular councils.
Other topics dealt with by the Cabinet:
- The Govern will supply 45 million pesetas for the rehabilitation of
windmills in the agricultural areas of the North of Mallorca.
- Approval of the Decree for special measures for the administration of
hydraulic resources.
