The Balearic local minister of Tourism, Celestí Alomar, presented on Saturday, a poll commissioned by the Balearic Government to
find out about the opinion of the Balearic Public on the ecotax. The poll was carried out between May 22 and 29, interviewing 1,200
residents of the Islands, over 18, by telephone. According to the results, two of every three people of the islands knows about the
ecotax, three of every four think that the amount of 1 euro is reasonable, more than two thirds parts of the people consider that it is
good for tourism and only on of every five think that it is prejudicial.
In regards their position on the ecotax, eight out of every ten people of the islands are in favour, in fact 78% of the population of
Mallorca, 77% of Menorca and 81% of Ibiza and Formentera. The poll also gave results for Palma, where the favourable position for
the ecotax reached 81% and the rest of Mallorca, where 74% are in favor.
On the other hand, the public poll on the ecotax shows that the voters of the parties are mostly in favor of the ecotax. PSM 93,6%,
IU 89,9%, UM 83,1%, PSIB- PSOE 81,2% and PP 74,6%.
Finally, with regards to their opinion by age: 18 to 29 , 86% in favour and 9% against; 30 to 44, 83% in favor and 11% against; 45 to
59, 74% in favor and 14% against; 60 and over, 67% in favor and 16% against.
