Mallorca in Fiesta time: processions, street parades, dances....
The popular fiestas make the villages lively in the summer months. Garlands, street parades, dances and firework displays dress up the whole island. Next weekend the festivities for the Verge del Carme (Virgin of Mount Carmen) will be held in Port d'Andratx, where the traditional procession in the Patron Saint's honour is held, one of the most important events in the programme of these fiestas. The Procession will take place on Sunday, July 16 at approximately 8 p.m. when as usual the best decorated boats will receive prizes from the Fishermen's Guild.

The fiestas for the Verge del Carme are also held in other towns of Mallorca, such as Es Capdellà, el Port de Pollença, Port de Sóller, La Ràpita, Cala Bona, Cala Rajada...

A few days later come the fiestas for Sant Jaume (Saint James), around July 25, a compulsory date for Algaida, where the ancestral dance Cossiers can be enjoyed, one of the oldest ritual dances on Mallorca. The 'Festa de la Beata' is also worth stressing, on July 28 that is celebrated in Valldemossa with a parade of floats.

More information about the various festival activities, programmes for the months of July and August, can be found on ei! vine de festa, that presents a fuller diary than ever this year.
