The president of the Mallorcan Council, Maria Antònia Munar, presented
urgently to the extraordinary full meeting of the institution held on
Friday, July 28, a proposal for urban moratorium for Mallorca. With the
sole opposition by Partido Popular (PP), the temporary norm was approved
with the favourable vote of the other political forces represented in
the Mallorcan Council.
The moratorium implies the suspension of urban licences and affects
principally the urban land in tourist zones (POOT) that do not have the
basic infrastructure and some of the non tourist areas of Palma and the
Serra de Tramuntana, namely Andratx, Banyalbufar, Escorca and Sóller.
The building licence freeze will continue until the approval of the
Territorial Plan for Mallorcan with a maximum limit fixed by the norms
of five years.
The new norm will be exhibited to the public for fifteen days when
allegations can be presented, so that modifications could still be
included that should be approved by a new full meeting of the Council.
