Montuïri: Xeremiers, Cossiers... and the Devil
Montuïri is celebrating these days the patron saint fiestas for Sant Bartomeu. This municipality of the "Pla de Mallorca" (the Mallorca Plain), situated in the centre of Mallorca, faithfully conserves a great part of its traditions, amongst which is the "Ball dels Cossiers" which is held every year for these festivities , although the "Cossiers" also dance on August 15, the Assumption Day.

And so, on August 23 and 24, the traditional "Dansa dels Cossiers i la Dama" is danced, accompanied by the "Demoni" and the "Fabioler" (piper). On August 23, after the dance at 7 p.m. and the church service, basil is distributed followed by a choir concert by "MONT-LLIRI".

On Thursday 24 at 9 a.m., the Xeremiers de sa Calatrava will perform followed at 10 a.m. yet again by "els Cossiers, la Dama i el Dimoni". At 11.30 a.m. there will be the solemn church service when the Cossiers will dance the traditional "Oferta". Finally, at 1 p.m. "els Cossiers" will dance in the town square.

From the programme of the fiestas of Montuïri -- that includes exhibition, children's activities, sporting activities and a long etcetera, worth stressing is the popular dance with Música Nostra, on the Thursday at 11.30 p.m.; and the dance on Saturday, with performances by Fora des Sembrat, Champagne, So What and Tumbet de Solfa.
