Patron Fiestas at Felanitx: "Cavallets" and dances
From August 18 to September 2 the patron fiestas for Sant Agustí will be held at Felanitx. The programme will start officially on Friday August 18 at 8.30 p.m. with the Proclamation by Antoni Oliver Reus. This follows in the Plaza de Sa Font with refreshments for all, and performances by the Municipal Band and the "Castellers de Llevant" and "Castellers de Mallorca" (human towers). The programme for this first day of the fiestas will end with the dance-concert with music by Tam Tam Go!, Miranda Warning, Locus Versus, Amy Clark and Pacha. The fiestas of Felanitx include a wide and varied range of cultural, ludic and sporting activities for all ages, and musical performances nearly every night. These include Lax'n'Busto, Marisa Rojas, Antònia Font, Valentín Mendoza and Mal Vici, on Saturday August 19; and the recital of popular music, on Sunday 20, with Nou Romancer and Pla Forana. Special mention must be made of the concert by Joaquín Sabina and Mil·lenni, on Wednesday 23; and the concert on Friday 25 with Juan Perro, Melon Diesel, Malditos, Tumbaos and Límit.

On Sunday 27, as from 9 a.m. the traditional Sant Augustí fair will be held all day; in the afternoon, street parades with the "els cavallets, dimonis i caparrots"; and to end the day, "Completes" at the Convent de Sant Agustí, procession, fireworks and a street party with popular dancing.

For Monday August 28, the day of Sant Agustí, we recommend the ancient dance "Els Cavallets", the most emblematic event of the fiestas that will be held in the morning after the Mass. This is the fertility dance, by a group of youngsters dressed in a cardboard horse, that dances around a young lady, while a devil, the popular character who symbolises the authentic fiesta, runs around chasing the children.
