Mexico and Jamaica are the points of expansion for the
Riu Hotels chain.
In October the Riu Playacar will open its doors, a five star hotel with
360 rooms at Playa del Carmen (Mexican Caribean), that will be the
fourth establishment of the chain in this area. The new hotel is right
on the sea, only a few metres from the Riu Palace Mexico, the flagship
of the chain outside Spain. The hotels of the chain in Mexico attract a
large number of visitors from the Argentine, USA and Canada, as well as
tourists from Central Europe and Spain.
Meanwhile, in May 2001, the Riu Tropical Bay will open its doors in the
paradise beach of Bloody Bay, in Negril (Jamaica). The five star
hotel, is aimed mainly at the markets of USA and Canada, where the RIU
name is acquiring prestige and fame.
All the RIU hotels in America are privately owned except for the two
hotels in Cuba, that are only administered.
Riu Hotels foresees future growth with a new establishment in the
Domincan Republic and the construction of a hotel on Miami Beach.
